The communication education covers journalism (print, radio, television and news media), film studies, public relations, advertising, corporate communication along with many other related subjects.
Mass media refers to all media technologies, including the Internet, television, newspaper, and radio, all of which are used to entertain as well as broadcast information and generate public opinion regarding various issues concerning society. Press plays a significant role and journalists are valued as front runners in determining public opinion. Media ensures free flow of news, information, and entertainment. The privatization of media and the introduction of new media (online media) have completely transformed the industry.
The world has witnessed a remarkable and unmatched explosion in communication technology and media. Boundaries have been excelled, and the entire global community seems to have been brought together into one unified whole. A career in media promises to be very rewarding but at the same requires one to be resourceful and enterprising. A professional course in Media Management opens doors for a career in films & TV, publishing, public relations, journalism, editing, direction, filmmaking, scriptwriting, production, etc. In short, it widens the horizon of career options for a person. Attractive and high paying jobs as journalist, actor, director, editor, screenwriter, RJ, producer, VJ are available to the talented and trained individuals. Those with qualifications related to filmmaking can join film studios and production companies to build a career in this field.
Numerous reputed media organizations/groups (such as Times Group, UTV, NDTV, CNN-IBN Adlabs, Sony, Sahara Group, Mukta Arts) recruit skilled and proficient media personnel.
Advertising also offers a number of job opportunities; one can work in media planning, client servicing, or creative visualizing.
For undergraduate courses in Media, a 10+2 pass in any stream from a recognized Board is required, while for postgraduate courses, graduation in any discipline from a recognized university is mandatory.
An individual needs to have creativity and a great deal of patience, because in this field, it takes a lot of hard work, and quite some time, to make it to the top. Candidates who are interested to get into news media should have keen interest and sound knowledge of news and current affairs. Global outlook on various issues helps candidates in obtaining the position of reporter or journalist.
Similarly, those who are interested in electronic media are required to have practical knowledge on video editing. Most of the mass media training institutes offer internship programs with news channels or entertainment channels which help candidates get a job after completion of the course.

Thus was born PSG College of Arts and Science in the year 1947 to the PSG & Sons Charities Trust which was founded in the year 1926 by the four praise-worthy sons of P.S. Govindasamy Naidu, the four brothers of the PSG family, Thiru PSG Venkataswamy Naidu, Thiru PSG Rangaswamy Naidu, Thiru PSG Ganga Naidu and Thiru PSG Narayanaswamy Naidu who took "Charity through Education" with great missionary zeal.
The college has been accredited at the FIVE STAR level by NAAC and became an ISO 9001: 1994 certified institution in 2001 and subsequently an ISO 9001: 2000 certified institution since 2003. In the second NAAC Accreditation the college secured A+ in 2007. In Feb 2014 the college was Re-Accredited with A Grade by NAAC (3rd Cycle).
